MultiFASTA Builder

Converts any file to multiFASTA file in seconds!

MultiFasta Builder is a one-click file converter the merges the specified sample files (ABI, SCF, FASTA, multiFASTA, GBK, multiGBK, SEQ, TXT) in a single multiFasta file.

It can generate a standard multiFasta or custom multiFASTA file. Starting with version 3.0 protein FASTA files are also supported.

Installation

Starting with 2011, Fasta to multi-Fasta converter has been renamed to MultiFasta Builder and integrated in DNA Baser (together with other free molecular biology tools) and it can be accessed from the Tasks panel:

To get this convertor, just download the DNA Baser package. The download time should be below 10 seconds.

How to use the MultiFasta Builder converter

• In DNA Baser, start the MultiFasta Builder tool: open the 'Tasks' panel and click on 'Batch conversion'.
• Locate the folder that contains your FASTA files.
• Choose a name for the output file (the default name is "Result 1")
• Press the 'Start' button.

The resulted multiFASTA file will be automatically saved in the same folder.

Output format

The program can generate three different types of multi-Fasta files:

I. Keep original comments (standard multi-Fasta)
     In this mode, the program will create standard multi-FASTA files where the original comment of each FASTA file will be kept. Recommended for most users.

II. File name as comment
     In this mode, the original comment of each FASTA file will be replaced with file's name.

III. No comments (compact multi-Fasta)
     In this mode, the comments will be completely removed from the resulted multi-Fasta file. However the contents will be saved in a file, separated by a semicolon.

     A second output file will contain the names of all input FASTA files.

Portability

This program is very small so you can easily copy it on a USB flash stick and take it with you or send it to your colleagues via email.
