Description

The main purpose of Show Desktop Alternative utility is to avoid the conflict between Microsoft 'Show Desktop.SCF' file and chromatogram SCF files.
More exactly, if you associate SCF files with DNA Baser Assembler, the Show Desktop icon in the Task bar will not work any more because its extension is the same as the chromatogram files (note: please understand that this is not a limitation in DNA Baser Assembler but in Microsoft Windows).

This program will replace the Microsoft Show Desktop icon with a new working one. Compared with Microsoft's Show Desktop it has an extra useful feature: it can show your computer's free memory.

Install process

Show Desktop Alternative is delivered in a very small package together with other free molecular biology tools. Just download the package and double click it. It will automatically self-extract.

Portability

This program is very small so you can easily copy it on a USB flash stick or floppy disk and take it with you or send it to your colleagues via email.

How to use it

Double click the program to run it. It will automatically start next time when Windows will start. You can change that in the configuration menu.
Click on the blue icon to activate it.
Select the menu 'Show free memory' and its icon will turn green and it will display your computer's free memory.
