The Unlock Key

What is the Unlock Key?

To switch DNA Baser from trial mode to full working mode or to extend the trial period, you need a valid Unlock Key (also called 'license key' or just 'key'). The Unlock Key is nothing else than two small strings (numbers and letters). The key is generated by us based on your computer ID.

The registration process works like this:

• Send your computer ID to us
• We generate your key (based on this ID and on your name) and send it back to you
• Enter your key into the program.

The process is detailed below. Please note that the registration process is different for Single user and Multi user (Network) customers.

What is the Computer ID?

The computer ID is a 8 digits number generated by DNA Baser.

If you are using the Standard (Single User) edition of DNA Baser follow this procedure to get your computer ID:

• Start DNA Baser
• Press "Info->Register->Send computer ID" menu (see figure 1).
• DNA Baser will display an 8-digit string (that may look like this) which represents your computer ID.

If you are using the Network edition please see the Step 4 in this document.

Unlocking the program

Note: This applies only to Single-user customers. Network customers read here.

1. Retrieve your computer ID and send it to us
   
   Fill your computer ID in the "Key Request" form received after purchase and sent it to us. Please make sure you are using the latest version of DNA Baser before asking a key.
   
   
2. Receive the unlock key
   
   Soon we will send you your unlock key. Enter your key into the program exactly as given to you.
   Hint: It may take several days until we will send your key. However, you can start using the program immediately by entering the temporary key sent to you after purchase.
   
   
3. Restart the program
   
   Restart the program. Hint: Is enough to restart only the DNA Baser program; not your entire Windows operation system.

How to enter your key into the program?

Note: This applies only to Single-user customers. Network customers read here.

To enter the key, use the 'Receive the unlock key' menu (figure 2). Please enter key (the green text) exactly as given to you. Both the "name" and "key" fields must be filled unaltered. The 'Name' field does not necessary contain your name. It can be any other value provided BY US. This is especially true for temporary and trial keys.

This key will switch the version that you have installed from "trial" to "purchased".

Please note that if the computers where you install the licenses are multi-user then you need to run DNA Baser in administrator mode when you enter the key. This way all users will have access to the license.
