Installing DNA Baser Assembler

for the first time

Good to know:

DNA Baser Assembler is a monolithic program. This means that it does not require Java or other 3rd party programs, updates, DLL's, plugins, etc, and it doesn't install files in your computer
It takes so little space that you can barely count it (only 2-3 MB)
It loads really fast.
It can be installed on 32 bit versions of Windows NT 5, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista, Win 7

Note:

Windows Vista and Windows 7 may display a message that says "This program might not have installed correctly". Please ignore this message and select "This program installed correctly" button displayed at the bottom of that message. This message appears when the user account control (UAC) is enabled. To avoid this message you can turn off UAC before installing the software.

Installing DNA Baser Assembler

The install process is very simple and should not take more than 15-20 seconds (including the download). All you have to do is to download the installer, run it.

1. Download DNA Baser package

Download DNA Baser Assembler package in your computer. Your browser will ask you where to save the package. Choose any location (for example, choose your Desktop). Before moving to step 2, please make sure the date/time of your computer is correct, or else the trial period will instantly expire.

2. Start the installer

Locate the recently downloaded file (it should be called 'DNA Baser Setup.exe') and double click it. The installer will ask you where to install the program.

3. Choosing a destination folder

DNA Baser Assembler CAN BE INSTALLED even by "Guest" users. If your user profile has administrator rights, you can install DNA Baser Assembler anywhere.

If your user profile has limited permissions (limited or guest user), just choose a different location than "Program Files".

Recommended location when you have administrator (elevated) rights:	C:\Program Files\DNA Baser
Recommended location when you don't have administrator rights:	C:\DNA Baser

As a general rule, any folder where you have write access is suitable for installing the program. Examples of folders where you have write permissions: My Documents, Desktop, any folder that you have created.

4. Install

When ready, press the "Install" button. In few seconds the installation process will be done and DNA Baser will automatically start. An icon (shortcut) will be created on your desktop but only after the program ran for the first time.

Installing the network version

DNA Baser Network will be installed in the same way (see steps 1-4 above) as the single client version. However, starting the Network version requires a special (but simple) procedure.
