The settings file
Restoring the settings to default

What is the 'Settings' file?
Every time DNA Baser Assembler starts it remembers its previous status: the last folder use to assemble files, trimming engine parameters, general settings, window placement, etc.
These settings are stored in a file called "DnaBaser.ini" (note: the name might change in time but it will be something similar to this).
It is safe to delete this file! If you delete it, the details about the previous status will be lost and all settings reset to default. DNA Baser Assembler will recreate this file if it is missing.
Where is it located?
DNA Baser v2
DNA Baser will write the
file in the folder where it is installed IF it has write access to that folder, else it will write the file in user's profile folder.
DNA Baser v3
It will always write the file in
user's profile folder.
If you cannot locate the file, we recommend you to do a search for "DnaBaser.ini" to see where the file is located on your hard drive.
Other files
In the same folder where the INI file is located you may find also the "Primers.pDB" which stores the list of used vectors/primers and the "News.TXT" which stores the news retrieved from our web site.
When to reset DNA Baser settings to default?
Situations when you need to reset DNA Baser settings are rare:
- if you accidentally changed DNA Baser settings and you don't know how to put them back
- if you have changed the settings and DNA Baser behaves different than it behaved until now
- if you have instructed to do so
- if you want to install DNA Baser "clean"
Deleting the settings file:
- will reset program settings to factory defaults.
- is semi-equivalent with a "clean reinstall" procedure.
- will make DNA Baser to show the welcome message (something like: "Welcome. You are using DNA Baser for the first time...").
Note: In most cases when you install a new version of DNA Baser it is recommended to keep the INI file. This way, all your settings are kept.
