Upgrading/reinstalling
DNA Baser Assembler

You can upgrade in three different ways as explained below. If you want to reinstall the program, follow the procedure no III. In all cases you may need to manually delete the file where
DNA Baser keeps its current settings. Don't worry, this is a simple task. Please follow the guides bellow.
I. Clean install
- Close DNA Baser if it is running.
- Delete the settings file.
- Delete the old installation (alternatively, you can move it to a different location or make a ZIP/RAR backup). Then follow the steps 1, 2
and 3 described in the "How to install DNA Baser for
the first time" page.
II. Parallel installation
This allows you to keep in your computer both the old and the new version.
- Close DNA Baser if it is running.
- Delete the settings file.
- If the old version is installed in a folder
like "c:\DNA
Baser v2.11" then install the new version in a different folder like "c:\DNA Baser v2.77".
- You may want to read the "Running two instances at the same time" document
III. Overwriting an existing installation
To install DNA Baser over an older version,
- Close DNA Baser if it is running.
- Delete the settings file.
- Follow the steps described in the "How to install DNA Baser for the first time" page.
When the installer asks you where to install the program, point it to the folder where the old version is already installed.
Notes
If you do not delete the settings file:
- The old settings will be kept.
- The old Primers database will be kept.
- The 'Welcome-You are using DNA Baser for the first time...' message will not appear.
- The new installed version will not associate itself with the sample files (ABI, SCf, FASTA, SEQ, etc)
Our recommendation for upgrading to a new version of DNA Baser is to use procedure no II.
