What is the settings file?

Every time you start DNA Baser you will see that it remembers its last status: the last folder use to assemble files, trimming engine parameters, general settings, window placement, etc. These settings are stored in a file called "DnaBaser.ini". Note: the name might change in time but it will be something similar to this. DNA Baser creates this file when it starts for the first time or if it doesn't exist. It writes the settings to file every time you shut it down, and reads the settings from this file every time you start it.

Where is located?

Our intention is to keep this file in the same folder where DNA Baser application is located, so the user can easily find it. However, MS Windows does not always allow us to do this. More exactly DNA Baser will write the file in the folder where it is installed IF the user has administrator rights or if it didn't installed the program in "c:\Program Files\" folder, else it will write the file in user's profile folder (it should be something like "c:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\DNA Baser\DnaBaser.INI".

If you cannot locate the file, we recommend you to do a search for "DnaBaser.ini" to see where the file is located on your hard drive, and delete all occurrences.

Notes:

  • Deleting the INI file is equivalent with a reinstall procedure.
  • All program settings will be reset to factory defaults.
  • Reinstalling DNA Baser without deleting the INI file from your user's profile folder is not a full reinstall procedure.
  • If you have made the procedure correctly, DNA Baser will show a message like "Welcome-You are using DNA Baser for the first time..." when it starts.

Summary:

Locate "DnBaser.INI" file in your computer (probably located in the same folder as DNA Baser or in your user's profile) and delete it.
